Travel Destinations for Each Month

Weather can be one of the biggest factors when deciding where to travel, and can really make or break your trip. Trust me, you do not want to be stuck in SE Asia during rainy season, or in Canada during a snow storm. Check out some of my favourite travel destinations for each month of the year below.

Travel Destinations for Each Month of the Year

Philippines

January - Philippines

The Philippines is one of the most underrated countries in SE Asia. Visit in January to spend endless days island hopping around the country and watching some of the prettiest sunsets in the world. You will not have to worry about typhoons in January.

January marks the start of the dry season in the Philippines, so expected little rain. Temperatures average at 31°C (88°F) across most of the major islands to the south of Manila.

French Quarter New Orleans

February - New Orleans

February is the best month to visit New Orleans in order to see the city come alive. Mardi Gras is a massive celebration here that usually falls during February. Whilst the festival itself takes place in the streets exactly 47 days before Easter, there are celebrations throughout the month. You can check out the official website to see the parade schedule and other events.

You can expect daily averages of 19°C (66°F), with mostly dry days. February does not fall during hurricane season for the southern states.

Bryce Canyon National Park

March - Southern Utah

March is a fantastic month for a Southern Utah road trip. You can expect chilly temperatures and even some remaining snow. However, visiting at this time of year means you will avoid the summer crowds and sweltering heat. This makes for a really enjoyable hiking experience in the national parks.

Expect average daily temperatures of 15°C (59°F) in Zion National Park, and around 18°C (64°F) in Moab. These areas are unlikely to experience snowfall in March. However, due to altitude, Bryce Canyon National Park is always a bit colder. Expect average daily temperatures of 7°C (45°F). Whilst there is likely to be snow in this area, hiking is still accessible with the proper equipment.

Hoi An Vietnam

April - Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the best travel destinations to visit in April. This is when the country will experience the least rainfall, so you can make the most of each day. Weather varies greatly between the northern and southern areas of the country, so April is a good time to experience the whole country.

Expect average daily temperatures of 30°C (86°F) in southern areas like Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi sees slightly cooler temperatures of 28°C (82°F). April does not fall during Vietnam’s rainy season.

Cordoba Spain

May - Spain

May is a fantastic month to visit Spain. Not only will you avoid the dry, sizzling summer heat, but also the crowds that come with it. Spain is a huge country, and the weather varies across different regions.

Expect average daily temperatures of 26°C (79°F) in southern areas including Seville. Major cities, including Madrid and Barcelona, as well as the Balearic Islands experience averages of 23°C (73°F) at this time of year.

Geiranger Norway

June - Norway

Much of Norway experiences extremely cold temperatures throughout the year. So, June is a great time to visit this beautiful country to experience its summer months.

Expect average daily temperatures of 21°C (70°F) in Oslo, with only a few days of rain. Area further north including Lofoten experience lower temperatures of around 10°C (50°F). There will be little to no snowfall in southern areas and areas of lower altitude at this time of year. Hence, make the most of incredible hiking and cruising along some of the biggest fjords in the world.

Bali

July - Bali

Whilst Bali is one of the best year-round travel destinations, July falls in the middle of Indonesia’s dry season. This makes July a great time to explore Bali and surrounding islands.

Expect average daily temperatures of 27°C (81°F) across the island, with very few days of rain. If you want to avoid the crowds, visit in the second half of the month. This will allow you to avoid school holiday tourism from Australia.

Banff Alberta

August - Alberta

August is a fantastic time to visit Alberta. In particular, Banff National Park and Jasper National Park are amazing at this time of year. Spot endless wildlife, explore lakes by canoe and hike up endless mountains.

Expect average daily temperatures of 22°C (72°F) in these national parks, with only a few days of rain. After August, colder weather, rain and snow start to set in and some activities and roads will start to close off.

Times Square, New York

September - New York City

To both avoid crowds and excessive humidity, visit New York City in September. Not only will you be able to explore the city comfortably, but also see the beginnings of fall in Central Park. If you are a tennis fan, August is also the month of the US Open here in Queens.

New York City experiences average daily temperatures of 24°C (75°F) in August, with only a few days of rainfall.
