PLANES AND PLANS

My Travel Bucket List

My travel bucket list is full of far-away countries I have always dreamed of exploring. It is constantly changing and updating as I discover new places. Admittedly, there really is nowhere that I would say no to going. But, here is my bucket list of some countries that I am most excited and curious to visit. Hopefully this can provide some inspiration for your next trip, or at least convince you to create your own bucket list.

To see more of my bucket-list destinations I have already visited, check out the map on my About page.

My Travel Bucket List

Africa

Egypt - Bucket List

Egypt

Egypt stands out because of its long, rich history which can still be discovered through museums and monuments. I dream of visiting the Egyptian Museum, the Pyramids of Giza, and the Temples at Abu Simbel. Floating down the Nile River on a traditional felucca while observing riverside communities and wildlife is another bucket list experience for me. Plus, I have heard the falafel in Egypt is unrivalled.

Morocco

I have always dreamed of going to Morocco to relive my Dad’s adventure here. He told me stories of the madness of the Medinas and the stillness of the Sahara. Riding a camel through the sand dunes to discover desert cultures so different from my own is absolutely a bucket list item. I am also curious to explore the meeting point of French and Arabic cultures.

South Africa

South Africa

To me South Africa screams “Safari”, an ultimate bucket list item. Spotting elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo and leopards in the wild. Climbing to the peak of Table Mountain, and diving to the depths with great white sharks. I am curious to explore a landscape so similar to Australia, but a culture so different.

Asia

India - Bucket List

India

The Taj Mahal is on everyone’s bucket list, for obvious reasons. But, I also want to explore vibrant cities of Rajasthan, pilgrimage in Varanasi and beaches in Goa. India feels like it’s own continent with the amount of things to experience here. But, taking a cooking class will be a must when I can eventually visit.

Japan

Japan

Japan stands out as a unique country that has it all. History that spans from the ancient ages to modern conflicts. Food that makes your mouth water at the thought. Culture that has inspired entire genres of film and art. Cities that are some of the biggest and most vibrant in the world. Nature that continues to surprise and challenge us.

Jordan

Jordan

I have never visited the Middle East, and Jordan stands out as a great place to start. I would love to discover the ancient city of Petra and sleep under the stars in Wadi Rum. Not to mention floating away in the saltiness of the Dead Sea. Honestly, I imagine Jordan to be more like Mars than Earth.

Europe

Portugal - Bucket List

Portugal

Having loved Spain, I am curious to explore more of its neighbouring country Portugal. Lisbon strikes me as such a youthful and vibrant city. But, I am also curious to explore its more remote paradises including Madeira and the Azores. Will they live up to their reputation as the Hawaii of the Atlantic? And how many Pastéis de Nata is too many?

Switzerland

I love hiking, so Switzerland is an obvious bucket-list destination. To get lost in the alps, explore luxurious cities and indulge in fondue. No place else sounds quite so picture perfect. Switzerland has also always stood out as an interesting mix of French and German cultures which I would love to explore more deeply.

Turkey - Bucket List

Turkey

Turkey first came on my radar when we learned about Galipoli in school. What an incredible place to learn about such an important part of Australian history. But moreover, I would love to spend weeks exploring the melting pot of Asian and European culture in Istanbul. Not to mention sailing along the turquoise coast.

North America

Costa Rica

Costa Rica

The ‘Rich Coast’ speaks for itself. Zip-lining through the treetops of the cloud forest, wildlife spotting in the jungle and surfing on the Pacific coast. All travel bucket list experiences that can be lived in Costa Rica. I am curious to explore the biodiversity here that I have never seen before.

South America

Argentina - Bucket List

Argentina

Argentina means Patagonia, a hiker’s paradise on every outdoor lover’s travel bucket list. I would love to trek through the mountains and glaciers of this region. Buenos Aires also sounds like an incredibly vibrant and culturally-rich city. I am also curious to discover how Iguassu Falls compare to Niagara Falls?

Brazil

Brazil

Although Brazil is a huge country, I am most curious to spend time exploring Rio de Janeiro. Honestly, Rio screams FUN. I would love to spend February celebrating Carnival in the streets. I also recently discovered Brazil’s gorgeously tropical coastline, which would make for an incredible sailing trip.

Ecuador

Ecuador

Ecuador is on my travel bucket list for two main reasons: the Galapagos and the Amazon. I would love to be able to swim with the sea lions and discover other beautiful marine life at the Galapagos Islands. As for the Amazon, what other place on Earth has such vibrant and frightening wildlife? I am also curious to learn about Amazonian culture here.

Peru

Another hiker’s paradise. What a travel bucket list item to discover the ancient city of Machu Picchu here in Peru. I would love to hike the Inca Trail, along with so many others hidden among the magnificent Andes. Lake Titicaca is another area I would love to explore the culture of.
